Hebridean Photosail: 7 - 11 September 2020

The islands of the west coast of Scotland are some of the most beautiful places in the world. Photographers come from round the world to capture the landscapes and wildlife, glorious sunrises, sunsets and even northern lights. Selkie is offering a unique view of this stunning area reaching remote and rarely accessed locations. This slow adventure is designed to give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in Scotlands exquisite land and seascapes, and deliver an unforgettable experience for small groups.
Selkie is delighted to be working with photographer Justine Ritchie.
Justine is a photographer based on the Isle of Eigg in the Inner Hebrides. Her work is very much inspired by the wild, elemental landscapes and seascapes of the Scottish Highlands and Islands and reflects not only the natural world but also man’s interaction with the environment. Her photography encompasses both classic and abstract collections and as such she sees her work as not simply an illustration of the world around her but also a visual interpretation of it.
Her approach to photography comes from a very mindful and intuitive perspective rather than a purely technical one. She uses her camera as a tool to enable her to connect both physically and emotionally to the landscape in order to capture its true spirit of place.
Justine’s work has been published in a collection of landscape images, both national and local press, and has recently been featured in two Royal Photographic Society magazines. Justine focuses on mindful photography and will also run a cyanotype print workshop during our voyage.

We can’t plan the detailed itinerary in advance, but there are myriad possibilities setting out from Mallaig with a range of vistas and experiences ahead of us: Islands and mountains shaped by huge geological events; a sea home to whales, dolphins, seals and sea birds. Our possibilities include the Small Isles, Skye, Soay, Col and Tiree, or we can sail into the sea lochs of Moidart and Knoydart for these beautiful and memorable sailing and photography trips. We aim to focus our lens on the sunrise and sunsets, both aboard and from the land. Justine and Celia’s intimate knowledge of the area will give you the chance to discover secret gems and gain a perspective uniquely yours.
Our food on Selkie is an important part of our voyage and we try to use local produce as much as possible either from skipper Celia Bull’s croft or from other local Eigg crofts and businesses.
